Fair-Share Donations: The Reality of Our "Self-Funded" Model

High school athletics within the Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District (LVJUSD) operate on a self-funded model. While the district covers referees, league dues, and head coaching stipends for Varsity, JV, and Frosh, our athletic program relies on Voluntary Fair-Share Donations to cover virtually everything else.
While LVJUSD provides the field and the lights, the actual day-to-day operational needs of the program depend entirely on family and community support. Contributions stay directly with our program to support our athletes, maintain high safety standards, and cover major annual overhead.

The Investment in Your Athlete
Beyond collective team operations, equipping a single player with safe, high-quality gear requires a significant individual investment:
  • High-Tech Safety Helmet: ~$500
  • Professional-Grade Shoulder Pads: ~$400
  • Home & Away Game Uniforms: ~$500
  • Practice Gear: ~$100
  • Protective Accessories (Girdles, Mouthguards, Kneepads): ~$200
Providing protective equipment for a player exceeds $1,700 per athlete. Across a program of 150+ players, Granada Football manages and maintains over $250,000 worth of protective gear.
Fair-Share Donations are not for "extras"—they directly fund the annual inspection, reconditioning, repair, and essential replacement of the critical "armor" keeping our players safe in a high-impact sport.

How Fair-Share Contributions Directly Support Our Team

While Fair-Share contributions support our athletics department as a whole, football reaps a huge portion of these direct benefits:
  • Athletic Training & Medical Care: Donations help fund and fully equip our athletic trainer with the medical supplies and resources needed to keep our athletes healthy and safe on the sidelines.
  • Essential Everyday Supplies: Basic athletic trainer supplies alone costs upwards of $10,000 a year across the athletics department, and football players rely heavily on these supplies every single week for practice and game days.
  • Coaching & Safety Supervision: Fair-Share funds help cover stipends for specialized assistant coaches (Quarterbacks, Linemen, Special Teams) to ensure proper position-specific instruction and adequate safety supervision across Frosh, JV, and Varsity teams.
  • Transportation & Equipment: Fair-Share donations help offset heavy program expenses like game buses (~$2,200 per away game) and necessary replacements for worn practice pads, footballs, and headsets.

A Critical Partnership
No student will ever be denied participation in athletics if a donation is not provided—participation is never "pay-to-play."

However, the reality is simple: without the generous support of our families through Voluntary Fair-Share Donations, our program simply could not meet its essential budget requirements or maintain the safety standards our athletes deserve.

We ask every family to contribute their "Fair Share" to help us put a team on the field that is safe, fully equipped, and supported by top-tier coaching and athletic training staff.

(Note: All donations made to Granada High School Athletics are voluntary and non-refundable. Thank you for your continued investment in our student-athletes!)
